Chapter 01
Suction, circulation and chronic muscle tension
Most soft tissue work presses down. Cupping does the opposite: it lifts the tissue using suction, which decompresses the layers rather than compressing them and draws circulation into an area that had gone quiet.
That is why it suits tension that has been there a long time. Chronically tight tissue is usually poorly supplied, and pressing harder on it tends to make it guard rather than release.

The sports and desk patients who ask for it
Two very different groups end up here for the same treatment. Athletes use it for recovery between sessions and for the muscle tension that follows hard training, and desk based patients use it for upper back and shoulder tension that builds across a week.
It is used for muscle tension, back, neck and shoulder pain, sports injuries, headaches and migraines, joint pain and chronic muscle tension.
Chapter 03
Marks, and why they are not bruises
Cupping can leave circular marks for a few days. They are a consequence of the suction drawing blood toward the surface, not an impact injury, and they are not painful in the way a bruise is.
It is worth knowing before a wedding, a holiday or anything sleeveless. Say so and the placement can be worked around.
